Biography

George has been involved in the real estate development and construction industry for over 30 years through the New York City Housing Partnership (the Partnership), the Association of Brooklyn Clergy for Community Development (ABCCD), a principal of Metropolis Development and currently as the President and CEO of Blok, Inc. George was educated at Brooklyn College and Columbia Business School.

As the President and CEO of the New York City Housing Partnership, he oversaw one of the countries largest housing and mixed-use development programs for low and middle-income families facilitating the development of over 20,000 units of housing and more than 300,000 square feet of neighborhood retail, leveraging more than $1 billion dollars in private/public financing throughout the five boroughs. He orchestrated relationships with many agencies to rebuild neighborhoods in distressed sections of New York City. George supervised the overall operations of the Housing Partnership which included implementing its operating policies and procedures, engaging the Board of Directors; building relationships with local and national housing and community leaders; and overseeing the decision-making process for developer designations, contract negotiations and technical commitments. He led a team of more than 50 professionals, ensuring mission, fiscal and timeline targets were all met.

Prior to his promotion to CEO, George was the Director of the award-winning Neighborhood Entrepreneur’s Program (NEP), a division of the Partnership and the largest housing privatization program in the country. He successfully oversaw the management and redevelopment of more than 10,000 (mostly occupied) rental units totaling more than $900 million in public and private financing including HOME, LIHTC and conventional construction loans. He directed the production of more than 2,500 units annually; managed program relationships with developers, public agencies, private lenders and community leaders; and supervised all aspects of project development from tenant relocation and property management to construction and marketing.

Currently, George is the President/CEO of Blok Inc. where he continues his commitment to providing safe, quality housing to inner-city neighborhoods. He continues to utilize his talents, experience and expertise in managing rehabilitation, new construction and mixed-use projects. His success is attributed to his “hands-on” approach to running each project and a genuine care for the communities being served. As a native of the inner city his understanding of the community serves as his foundation to handle all aspects of development – from the initial planning to project completion.
